I had the urge to play Dark Castle last week, but I needed to update the archive to contain the Macintosh emulator for Mac OS X as well. Emulator Files: 2015-Dark-Castle.zip Inside the archive you’ll find images for Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle, two of my absolute favorite games to play in the mid 80s on old Macintoshes like the Mac Plus. The ZIP contains MiniVMac with a Mac Plus ROM file. The Mac image contains System 6, Dark Castle and Beyond Dark Castle. It DOES NOT contain Return to Dark Castle which is a current game and is available to purchase from Super Happy Fun Fun, see the downloads / links page for a shortcut.

Demo Recording
The published version contains a single gameplay demo, stored in the Castle Preferences file as 'Default', which depicts a Beginner playthrough of Trouble. There is no known way to access the recording functionality seen in the above dialog; deleting the DEMO resource merely results in no demo playing, while deleting the entire prefs file keeps the game from launching at all.
A similar inaccessible dialog exists in the 1988 sequel. User-recordable demos were finally enabled in 2008's Return to Dark Castle.
Compatibility
If launched on a 128K system, the game crashes with a flickering system error dialog before it can even manage to bring up this explanation.
